Lonnie Wilson has won the Academy of
Country Music's "Drummer of the Year" award
twice and Music Row Magazine's "Top Studio Drummer"
award four times. He has played on countless hits with
artists that include Brooks and Dunn, Faith Hill, George
Jones, Martina McBride, Rascal Flats, Randy Travis and
Waylon Jennings. He's played on 19 No. 1 singles for Tim
McGraw alone!
Wilson's parents and uncle are all musicians,
so he's had a sense of what makes a great song from a
young age. In the 1980's, Lonnie was the lead singer for
the group "Bandana." However, the desire to
start a family with his wife Donna, (a backup singer for
Loretta Lynn at the time) led him to the life of a studio
musician. His singer-songwriter sensibilities served him
well in understanding how to build a song, and deliver
the energy that the producers and artists were after.
He got in on the ground floor with Brooks and Dunn, and
played on their monster hit "Boot Scootin' Boogie."
This helped cement him as the hottest drummer in Nashville.
As a songwriter he has written for Rascal Flatts, Brooks
and Dunn, Joe Diffie and Andy Griggs. Hit singles he's
produced include "A Night To Remember," "It's
Always Something New" and the self-penned "Texas
Size Heartache."
